One of the most desirable traits
an individual can possess is creativity. Everyone wants to know how to
be more creative. In this day and age a person who can think both
rationally and creatively will have an edge in business and in
exploring life to its fullest.
Being creative doesn't just
happen overnight. Most people never get to use their creative
resources to the fullest because they haven't tried to develop them.
One way to acquire creativity at an early age is by learning to play
the piano. I'm not saying that sitting down and practicing the piano
will make a child a creative genius. What it will do is stimulate a
child's mind to be more expressive and more original.
Children have wondrous
imaginations, and the more you can bring out qualities such as
self-expression and curiosity, the more a child will respond to
challenges. Many long hours are spent practicing the piano. But
practice is a necessary step in unleashing creativity. Piano lessons
allow a child to develop better concentration and coordination which
eventually results in greater confidence. And once confidence sets in,
a child will be more open to try out new ideas without the fear of
There's often an emphasis in
schooling that children should follow things "by the book." This is
well and good. But there are times when it's only natural for a child
to want to "let loose," to take some chances, to be innovative.
Children who take piano lessons show these characteristics. They have
what we call "creative energy." They're alive. They want to learn.
They don't settle for one way of doing things.
Playing the piano won't make a
child a renowned artist, movie director, magazine writer or fashion
designer. But that's ok. Because the goal of piano lessons is not to
become famous; it's simply to become the best person you're capable of
- to reach your highest potential - and have fun along the way.
Everybody wishes he could find
the formula for how to become more creative. Some read books, others
attend lectures. But I contend there's a more natural way - by
learning a little more concentration, coordination and confidence.
Next to giving your child lots of love, nothing comes close to the
benefits of taking piano lessons.
